Making Paintings
Painting can be both concrete and abstract, a concrete idea can hold abstractions. And abstractions are things that really can’t be said so well with words.
My paintings are film-paintings, stills captured on canvas. Juxtaposed imagery layered with paint to create a unique mood.
To make a painting, I need ideas, and for me a lot of times, a final painting is made up of many fragments of ideas that came at different times.
I’m not concerned about the meanings of the images. It’s better not to know so much about what things mean. Because the meaning can be a very personal thing, and the meaning for me is different than the meaning for somebody else. The imagery leads and invites the viewer to further exploration of the mystery under the surface. Every viewer is going to get a different thing.
